HISTORY

For more than 50 years, Lee’s Flower & Card Shop -a family owned business — has served the Washington metropolitan community. Established in 1945 by William P. Lee and his wife Winifred, four generations of the Lee family work in the business continuing the tradition of quality and customer service insisted upon by William Lee at it’s founding. Conveniently located at 1026 U Street, NW, the newly renovated shop offers a retail floral center stocked with pottery, baskets, garden accessories and gifts along with a card shop carrying cards for every occasion.

From a simple single flower to an elaborate arrangement, no job is too large or too small for Lee’s. With a highly skilled floral design team, Lee’s uses only the freshest flowers to create stunning arrangements in traditional and contemporary styles.

MANAGEMENT

Stacie Lee Banks – Vice President, Event Specialist, & Lead Designer

Stacie’s passion lies in designing flowers. With over 25 years of experience, she has designed for numerous events including the various 2001 Presidential Inauguration Balls, in which she, along with a national team of renowned florists, designed hundreds of beautifully exquisite centerpieces. Stacie’s unmatched talents were also tapped for an international wedding in Avignon, France. The floral designs for this wedding had the distinction of being featured in a 2006 issue of Wedding Style Magazine.

Stacie holds a degree in Management from Howard University’s School of Business. She has served as President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary of the Teleflora International local unit, serving Washington D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia. During her tenure as President, the unit was awarded the prestigious honor of “Most Outstanding Unit”.

In 2000, she was inducted into the Society of American Florist’s Academy of American Floriculture in West Palm Beach, Florida.

In 2007, Stacie was appointed to the Society of American Florist’s Consumer Marketing Committee.

Kristie Lee Tyler – Vice President, Marketing

Kristie is a third generation florist, having worked in various capacities at Lee’s Flower and Card Shop since high school and during her attendance at the University of the District of Columbia.

As past President of the Teleflora International local unit, serving Washington D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia, she coordinated floral trade design shows and dinner meetings. She continues to work with the organization to keep them abreast of fresh, new designs.

In addition to her role at Lee’s, Kristie serves as lead designer of weekly floral alter designs for Washington D.C.-area churches.

Samanthia Keymist – Assistant Manager

Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in the Bronx, NY and Washington D.C, Samanthia has developed her floral career tremendously. After attending the Sanz School in Washington, D.C., she rose from Flower Processor to Creative Designer to Assistant Manager within five years at Lee’s Flower and Card Shop.

Although she specializes in weddings, sympathy, and everyday floral arrangements, Samanthia readily wears various hats at Lee’s. She serves as Lead Creative Floral Designer, a role which provides her the opportunity to frequent numerous floral design workshops to keep abreast of new and exciting happenings within the floral industry. In addition, she has served as Lee’s Booth Director for the Annual Radio One Bridal Expo. She is also Lead Designer for our weekly designs on display at the Washington Convention Center, Barbour Griffith & Rogers Law, and Chadbourne & Park Law.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Lee’s Flower and Card Shop has the longest running history of any flower shop in Washington, D.C. Established over 60 years ago in 1945 by William and Winnifred Lee on the historic U Street, the shop has grown by leaps and bounds over the course of its rich history. The family-owned shop now operates prime real estate on the entire southeast corner of 11th and U.

Our dynamic, four-generation business has designed and created magnificent memories for hundreds of brides, graduations and conventions. We also specialize in funeral arrangements and routinely design sympathy pieces for many Washington, D.C.-area dignitaries including the February 2004 memorial service for Dr. Alfred Goldson, in which we were requested to create a multitude of beautiful podium pieces for the ceremony.

CORPORATE EXPERIENCE

The principals and floral designers at Lee’s Flower and Card Shop have over 125 years of combined experience! We have designed fabulous floral arrangements for domestic and international clients, such as a 2003 wedding in Avignon, France, in which Vice President, Stacie Lee Banks, and her father, President, Rick Lee, arranged, coordinated and designed numerous 8-foot topiaries, bridal and attendant bouquets, and grand-scale centerpieces from flowers shipped from Holland to Avignon.

Whether it’s a corporate gala for 5,000, a wedding for 500, or a VIP dinner for 50, the Lee’s team excels at producing the most incredibly fabulous events, while consistently exceeding client expectations.

Our designs have been featured dozens of times in local and national publications, including the Washington Post, Grace Ormonde Wedding Style, the Washington Times, Floral Management Magazine, and Flowers& —a Teleflora magazine.

We have designed arrangements for the White House under the Ford administration, and were instrumental in creating centerpieces for the various 2001 and 2005 Presidential Inauguration Balls. We have also designed floral arrangements for the Women in Diversity Conference, where we provided over 200 towering centerpieces while simultaneously designing 75 bubble-bowl fruit and flower-filled centerpieces for the Southeastern University fundraising gala.

In 2004, Lee’s was awarded an exclusive floral contract for the National Minority Supplier Development Council’s Annual Convention, held at the Washington Convention Center.

In 2006, we served as the official florists for the week-long NAACP 92nd Annual Convention at the Washington Convention Center, The Grand Hyatt Hotel and Renaissance Hotel, during which we created and provided the organization with over 1,000 unique floral designs.

In 2007, Lee’s Flower and Card Shop exclusively designed all 200 floral arrangements for the Adrian Fenty Mayoral Inauguration at the Washington Convention Center.
